Manual › Your garden
My seeds and own varieties
Keeping track of your seeds and own varieties with variety, origin, year and your own sowing and harvest times, and scheduling them in your vegetable garden.
Under Seeds and wish list you keep track of the seeds you have: packets from the shop, seed from a seed swap, your own harvest or a variety someone gave you. Schedule them in your vegetable garden, and the plan follows your own sowing and harvest times.
Adding seeds
- Go to Seeds and wish list (in the menu, from My gardens or your vegetable garden) and choose Add seeds (the first time Add your first seeds).
- Under Which crop?, choose the crop, e.g. radish. Bladwijzer then knows the sowing times, the companions and the problems. Not in the list? Leave it empty.
- Fill in what you know:
| Field | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Name and Variety | E.g. “Radish” and “Cherry Belle”. |
| Where from? | Seed swap, own harvest, garden centre… |
| Year | The year of the seed (see Old seed). |
| How much? | E.g. “half a packet”. |
| Your sowing and harvest times | The months for sowing indoors, sowing outdoors, planting out and harvesting. |
| Days to harvest and Plant spacing (cm) | Often printed on the packet. |
| Note | E.g. “lovely big fruit, save the seed”. |
- Choose Add.
Use the pencil to edit or delete. Anything you’ve already planted stays when you delete the seeds.
Your own sowing and harvest times
When you choose a crop, its months are already selected. Does your packet say something different (e.g. an early or late variety)? Tap the months on or off. Use the crop’s times puts them back.
If you leave a row empty, the crop’s months apply.
Old seed
If your seed is four years old or more, Bladwijzer warns you: it may not germinate as well. Sow a little more thickly, or do a germination test on a damp piece of kitchen paper first.
Scheduling in your vegetable garden
- Choose Schedule on the seeds.
- Choose the vegetable garden. If you only have one, it’s chosen straight away; if you don’t have one yet, choose Create a vegetable garden.
- The window for a new crop opens, with your seeds already filled in. The plan follows your months and days to harvest.
- Choose the bed, check the dates and choose Add.
Your seeds also appear at the top when you add a crop in your vegetable garden (marked from your seeds).
Swapping
Too many seeds? Choose Swap next to the seeds: a listing for the noticeboard opens, with the name and year already filled in.
If someone nearby is looking for what you have, on the noticeboard or on the wish list they share, the packet says Wanted nearby. Tap it to go to It’s a match.
Good to know
Your seeds are yours alone. Anyone you share your vegetable garden with can see what you’ve planted, but not your list of seeds. Only if you choose Show my seed stock for swapping nearby yourself (see Swap settings) do people nearby looking for what you have see those seeds: the name, variety and year, not how much you have or your notes.
