Growth per plant
Measure a tree or plant every year (height, trunk girth, crown spread), with a photo, and see how it grows.
How much has your apple tree grown since you planted it? Measure it every year and see it in a chart, with the photos from then and now side by side.
Opening growth
- In your garden: tap ⋯ next to a plant in the list and choose Growth and photos, or tap the plant on the map and choose Growth.
- For houseplants: tap the small chart next to the plant.
The plant’s card shows the latest measurement, e.g. 3.45 m tall.
Adding a measurement
- Choose the date (today, or a day in the past if you’re copying an old measurement).
- Enter what you measured, in centimetres:
- Height: from the ground to the top.
- Trunk girth: around the trunk, 1 m above the ground (as arborists and foresters measure it).
- Crown spread: from one side of the crown to the other.
- Add a note and a photo if you like, and choose Save measurement.
You don’t have to fill in everything: one measurement, or just a photo, is enough.
Tip
Measure every year at about the same time, e.g. in winter when the tree has no leaves, and take the photo from the same spot. That way you can really compare the photos.
What you see
- A chart per measurement (height, trunk girth or crown spread), with how much the plant grew between the first and the last measurement, and how much that is per year.
- Then and now: the first and the last photo of the plant side by side.
- Photos over the years: all photos of the plant, by year. A photo added with a measurement gets the day of the measurement.
- All measurements in a table.
Who can do what?
Anyone who can see the garden can see the growth. Anyone who can work in the garden (including the participants of a shared or community garden) adds measurements and deletes their own. The owner and anyone who can edit delete any measurement. If you delete a measurement, the photo stays with the plant.
