Houseplants

Keeping track of your houseplants room by room, with a reminder to water them (less often in winter), poisonous plants and plant care.

Under Indoors you keep track of your houseplants, room by room. Bladwijzer remembers when you watered them and reminds you when they need water again, less often in winter.

Keeping track of your houseplants

  1. Under My gardens, choose New garden.
  2. Choose Indoors and give it a name, e.g. “Home” or “Office”.
  3. Choose Create.

Looking after the plants at school or in the office together? Then also tick Community garden (see Community gardens).

Everything on one page

Like a garden, Indoor plants sits on one page: Watering and care and your tasks, your plants by room, then the log, Jobs, Good for wildlife, the work days (in a community garden) and Reminders and sharing. The buttons at the top (or Sections at the bottom right) take you straight to a section; Open shows it on a screen of its own.

Adding a plant

  1. Choose Plant, or the plus button on a room.
  2. Under Which plant?, search the list of about 36 houseplants (Swiss cheese plant, snake plant, moth orchid, calathea…) with a full care sheet, and below them about 120 more houseplants from the garden plant catalogue (maidenhair fern, desert rose, tree aeonium…). Or type a name of your own and choose Use “…”. For a plant from the catalogue you see the light, how much water and the lowest temperature straight away.
  3. Fill in what you like:
Field What it’s for
Nickname E.g. “The big one by the window”.
Room Living room, kitchen, bedroom… or a name of your own. Your plants are grouped by room.
Water every … days Already filled in for a plant from the list (for the catalogue: based on how much water it wants). Empty: no reminder.
In winter, every … days Applies from November to February, when the plant needs less water.
Last watered Bladwijzer works out the next time from this date.
Note and Photos Up to 6 photos per plant.
  1. Choose Add.

To edit or delete a plant, use the pencil.

On the page of a houseplant from the catalogue, Add to my garden adds it straight to Indoors: you choose where (if you have more than one) and fill in the rest.

Tip

Let the top few centimetres of compost dry out first, and make sure the pot can drain. Too much water is more often the problem than too little.

Watering

For each plant you can see when it needs water again:

  • Next time with the date, and when you last watered it;
  • Water today;
  • Needs water since …, in red: you’re late.

Tap Watered when you’ve watered the plant. If several plants in a room need water, choose All watered for that room. The next time moves along automatically, and it’s recorded in the log.

What needs doing over the coming weeks is also shown at the top under Watering and care (see To do), in your calendar and in your morning reminder.

Poisonous plants

Many houseplants are poisonous if eaten, such as the Swiss cheese plant, dracaena or poinsettia. For a plant like that you’ll see Poisonous to children or pets, and poisonous in the list. Keep them out of reach of young children, cats and dogs.

Care and problems

  • The i button opens the plant’s sheet: light, water, when to feed and repot, care and tips.
  • Feeding or repotting? Create a task, e.g. feed every month. It appears in your calendar and your reminder.
  • Yellow leaves, spider mites or fungus gnats? Choose the warning button on the plant (Report a problem). You’ll see straight away what it could be and what to do about it (see Reporting a problem).
  • Need help from a “plant care specialist”? At the bottom, under Help from a professional, choose Request tree work (see Finding a professional).
